North Sea Treasure heading south

I am very excited to be exhibiting in Tell Me A Story at the At Work Gallery in Pimlico, London, 11th April to 30th June. Tell me A Story showcases contemporary jewellery which is inspired by stories which are significant to the makers and which incorporate found materials.

For this show, I made a brooch, North Sea Treasure -

As a child I spent every summer holiday by the sea in North Norfolk, where my grandmother lived. Enthralled by my grandmother’s tales of local beachcombers finding amber washed up along this coast, I spent countless hours searching, eyes down, along the tidelines.

Amber always eluded me, and my grandmother died over 30 years ago, but my fascination with seeking other kinds of treasure remains hard-wired. Discarded ephemera, often salvaged from the shore, underpins all my work as a jewellery designer and maker.

This brooch, which reflects these memories, combines a piece of amber, reclaimed from an old earring, with found and reclaimed plastics and recycled silver.
